Connecticut Communities help with Back To School Drives

School is starting and many businesses, organizations and people in Connecticut are doing all they can to make sure children have the supplies they need for success.   Whether you are a  family that could use a little help or you are interested in donating, we at WTNH Community Affairs wanted to highlight a few of these drives and fundraisers.

J Cuts in Shelton has been holding their 6th annual Back to School Book Bag & School Supply Drive to benefit abused, neglected, foster and impoverished children.  Drop off locations are at J Cuts, 505 Howe Ave and Minuteman Press, 427 B Howe Ave, both downtown Shelton.  This drive is scheduled to continue until August 28th at 6PM.

Pizzeria Marzano at 1929 E Main Street in Torrington is hosting a Back-To-School Drive that lasts until Labor Day, Monday September 3rd.  If you donate $10 worth of school supplies you will receive a $10 gift certificate to Pizzeria Marzano to use at a later date.  They will be donating all the supplies to the Torrington Middle School where social workers and guidance counselors will distribute to the students in the most need of assistance.

New Beginnings Church in Hamden will be holding their 7th annual backpack giveaway.  Come to 2340 State Street in Hamden this Saturday August 25th at 11am to 3pm and bring your children to receive a free backpack full of school supplies.

This year the Connecticut Food Bank is partnering with Connecticut schools again to address the issue of children who are food insecure and not getting adequate nutrition on the weekends.  Participating schools discreetly fill these children’s backpacks each Friday with healthy food to take home.  On Monday August 27th  the Night of Comedy fundraiser at Joker’s Wild in New Haven is one of the many fundraisers that will donate to this program .  For more information on the BackPack Program and this event please visit Connecticut Food Bank.

Please comment if you know any other drives/fundraisers for children’s school supplies happening in Connecticut!
